XSpace is located in Scarborough.  We visited to try out another Prison themed room.

Rooms: 4
Reviewed rooms:  Prison Escape

Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
: 1.0 of 5.0

Unfortunately Prison Escape falls a little short of simulating a prison or prison escape.  The team is broken up in two parts where one team is in the prison and the other is trying to rescue them.  The props were definitely dollar store material (some still had dollar store stickers) and the prison part of the room felt more like a kids bedroom with an iron gate door.  For the escape part, there were many areas that you couldn’t touch (probably the actual heating/cooling system or transformers for the complex) and instead felt like you were stuck in someone’s office kitchen.

Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 1.5 of 5.0

The short answer is, yes it was just lockboxes.  There was a dexterity component, which was fun, but we were thrown right back into lockbox hell.  Nothing much else to say i’m afraid.

Intuitive (aka Frustration Level):  Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 2.5 of 5.0

I would have to say half of the puzzles were solvable and the rest weren’t.  Particularly two puzzles came to mind as they wouldn’t have been obvious without a hint.  We still managed to escape, but slightly overtime.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
Score: N/A of 5.0

If this was a restaurant “EAT AND GO” would sum up our XSpace experience. You go in quick, pay fast, they rush you in and you leave just as fast (they definitely didn’t seem in the mood for chatting).  Even with the vouchers we were initially interrogated if we had booked before coming in, which surprised us cause we did.

The current price is $22/person, but at the time we visited there was an online voucher.  I would have to say without the voucher $22 is very steep for the quality we experienced.

Overall:  To keep it short and simple, for $22 in Scarborough there are a lot of other places to try.
