Trapped! – Diamond Heist

Trapped! is located right in the downtown core, just near Dundas Square and Eaton Center.  Not to be confused with Trapped in Markham.  It was our second visit to their site, you can catch our original visit here: Original review

Gamemasters Billy, Carmen and Jasmine filled us in what has changed since our last visit, but we were eager to sink our teeth into the long awaited Diamond Heist room.  This time around we were joined by Mike and Miranda from Team Undefeated,  which in less than 30 minutes showed us their expert skills.  Team Undefeated is a group elite escapers from Niagara who have escaped nearly all their rooms (except Counter-Ops, but the same goes for us).

Team Undefeated + Diamond Heist = a good time, and here is how it went.

Reviewed rooms:  Diamond Heist

Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 4.5 of 5.0

The room felt solid, and there weren’t any cheap props.  If we had to be nit picky ( and It could be that we missed some details) but the room felt less like an auction room and more like a art gallery or an art collector’s room.  Otherwise the room was polish and you can tell they put alot of thought into what were ‘game’ components and what was decor.

Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0

*SPOILER ALERT*  This is by far our favourite laser room in the city.  If you’ve read our other reviews when we talk about lasers its usually associated with a groan and how it doesn’t fit the theme.  The tech is definitely not bleeding edge but it is by far the best tech room we have done in the downtown core.  After talking with the owners we discussed the various fail-safe scenarios and we can see it was well planned out.

Intuitive (aka Frustration Level):  Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0

Nothing was overly complicated and we didn’t need any logical leaps.  The puzzles provided enough direction and I would have to say the most challenging part was the first 10 minutes.

Bring a “musician” if you want to have an easier time, but overall there are enough clues and documents to help the musically inclined (like me).  We were lucky to have Mike from Team Undefeated (who I’ve dubbed the Leader) who has a music background and basically carried the team.

Staff Support/Price :
Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The staff was inviting, friendly and very enthusiastic to share every story that their place told.

Their current price is $22.00/Person (regular $28/person) , student discount to $20/person or Free if its your birthday (and you have an id).  With the current price you can’t go wrong its mid-range for the downtown core.

Overall: A great room to try, highly recommended for the downtown core.  I would probably bring no more than 4 people but if you appreciate tech, you’ll like this room.
