AT Escape – The Magic Room
AT Escape is located near Yonge and Sheppard, in a small bungalow. We’ve returned after finishing their rooms nearly 6 months ago. Gamemaster Thomas invited us a while ago to visit and see their new room. We luckily found parking (if you’ve been there you know how hard it is to get parking) and off we went!
Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 4.5 of 5.0
The Magic Room was the replacement for their Toy Room, which we didn’t like so much. The room was a bit cramped with the new set design, but we were surprised at the room’s transformation. The props and set were solid and did fit the theme. I would say in terms of polish (to be nit picky) there were alot of things that were glued down (some parts worse than others), but otherwise it was a very well put together room.
Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0
Surprisingly AT Escape has really leveled up their tech. Every important puzzle in the room had some tech associated with it, and it was executed well. The tech related to the theme and we didn’t have any technical or safety issues with it.
Intuitive (aka Frustration Level): Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0
This room is really easy. I believe part of it is the low number of puzzles (unless you count searching). But once you find everything that needs to be found, you can easily get out of this room. There were no large logical leaps to be made, and the room does provide enough direction if you are observant enough. The Hint system hasn’t changed, you can call in the Gamemasters by a switch or through intercom, which we had no issues with. We would recommend this game to newbies and small groups (no groups larger than 4 though).
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The staff has consistently been friendly and helpful. The new staff didn’t know us but apparently knew all our records (they keep track of them). We were gabbing about their games and some stories which was great.
The current price was $18 + tax (about 20.34) if you check-in to facebook. It is mid-range in price compared to some of the other escape rooms in the area, but definitely better than the $15 experiences.
Overall: The Magic room is a really short room, but it will be great for beginners. What we were impressed to see was the quality of the design overall. If the Magic room is any indication how their future rooms will be, there is much to look forward to.
