Gamemaster Spotlight – Trapped!

When we first met the team at Trapped! it felt like we were visiting good friends we haven’t seen for a while.  They definitely have a story for every shelf and crevice in their complex.  Today we have Gamemaster Duncan to share Trapped!’s story.

Why did you get involved in the Escape Room business?

Our team is made up of 6 individuals, and we all started playing escape rooms during the beginning of 2014 and thought that it was super fun. After playing the various escape rooms offered at the time, we sat down one day and spontaneously discussed with each other the idea of bringing the experience downtown. Finding a place to set-up took months of real estate hunting because downtown is a very unique landscape to set-up an escape game facility. At the time, many landlords did not understand the nature of the business and flat out rejected us. We finally found a spot at Bay and Dundas!

As mentioned, our team is made up of 6 very unique individuals. We have a seasoned programmer/electrical individual , a visionary, an accountant, sales/marketing/operations person, engineer, and a creative designer. We purposely formed this group due to the uniqueness of our skills During the day, we all have our full time jobs and after the clock hits 5pm, we all look forward to the 2H of the day: coming to Trapped! as a side hobby.

What do you think makes your facility standout in the city?

I think our facility stands out because we are conveniently located close a very developing part of Dundas, west of Bay. Over the past year, we have new neighbours, such as Uncle Tetsu Cheesecaske Cafe, Denny’s, YogaTree, etc. etc. The area is actually becoming a lot more hip and although we are not as hip, we are glad to be associated with these new establishments. Closeby, we also have other escape rooms following suit, and also leveraging the proximity to these locations.

We are truly an independent shop. We create all of our own puzzles. Every frame, every puzzle, every nail, every clue is developed by us. This has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: very unique puzzles, designs and gameplay.
Disadvantages: takes us a lot longer to release a room, but when we do, we feel a great sense of accomplishment.

Do you have any Interesting stories about any players/Teams?

All of our players and teams are great ! We only have stories about us. During the “in-between” times when we escort the players into the room and we have the main reception area empty to ourselves, our team has….way….too much fun.

Nerf Guns come out. Strobe lights come out. We dim the lights, turn on spotify, and we dance. It is actually a pretty sad scene.

What are some places people are more likely to visit before/after your rooms?

-Spadaina Garden
-Uncle Tetsu
-etc. etc. so many choices!

Do players have a favourite room?

-The Claustrophobia Room and The Diamond Heist room seem to be favourites.

Any other cool or interesting things you want your players/potential players to know?

We are a group of guys that have way too much fun. Just come in, enjoy the rooms, relax, have fun, and that will make us happy! We’re glad to have a developing strong network of escape rooms, and escape blogger enthusiasts, just like yourselves.

Trapped! continues to impress us with their great puzzles and custom design.  Their latest room Diamond Heist is currently our best rated laser room and Claustrophobia has been one of our Top Spots since we played it back in November.  Trapped! continues to raise the bar for quality escapes in the downtown core.
