Xscaper Arts – Kingsman

Xscaper Arts is located in the heart of Main St Unionville on the ground floor of an old church.  It has been a while since we’ve been back to visit Gamemaster Mark, but when we heard about Kingsman Team Mardi and Miby hopped across town to try their latest room.

Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 4.0 of 5.0

If you haven’t been to Xscaper Arts one thing they try to do is take certain elements from movies and apply it to their rooms (for example, Entrapment had a laser grid room).  Kingsman focuses on the initiation process from the film but with their own added twists (if you haven’t seen the film, you can get by).  The set design was obvious at what they were trying to achieve, but we think that it needs some more polish.  It was a well put together room, but the drawback of doing a room inspired from a movie is that it creates higher expectations (versus a more generic theme).

Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 4.5 of 5.0

Lack of tech has never been an issue with Xscaper Arts.  They are always ahead of the curve on cool tech, and find fun ways to incorporate them into the story.  Kingsman has quite a few ‘surprising’ moments, but there was one piece of tech that we wish was implemented a bit better (it was very specific in the way it operated).  Otherwise we had no technical/safety issues.

Intuitive (aka Frustration Level):  Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 4.0 of 5.0

Gamemaster Mark pointed out this was their hardest room, and he wasn’t kidding.  If you have a highly observant team  you may be able to escape the room, however our team was stuck on a particular puzzle because we missed a clue.  We felt there was too much information and not enough direction and really only one case where we needed to make a minor logical leap.

The hint system was a standard walkie-talkie system that calls in the gamemaster (or hints through the walkie talkie), which didn’t have any issues.  There was also a secondary hint system built into the game.

Staff Support/Price :
Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

We were glad to see Gamemaster Mark who is an escape enthusiast himself.  He has been exploring some of the top spots in the city and we can see that Kingsman is a level up from their previous rooms.

The current price was $25 , which on the mid range for this part of the city.  However if you like tech surprises, this will be well worth it.

Overall:  Kingsman is a great addition to Xscaper Arts Markham and if Inception is any indication of how much Kingsman will evolve, we look forward to seeing Kingsman v2.0 in a few months.
