Escape London – Mad Tea Party
Escape London is located on what appears to be a small house on a hill, in London Ontario. The Mad Tea Party was our final escape of our London trip along with our friends Errol and Manda (from ERA) and a special guest. GM Shawn was telling us this room was their most ‘high-tech’ room, which is also their newest and hardest.
Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 4.5 of 5.0
The room is themed to be like an Alice in Wonderland adventure. The room was well decorated and captured the madness/cartoon aspects of the adventure. If we had to be nit-picky there was one part of the room that did feel out of place, and put in to fit the puzzles, but overall it was a well designed room.
Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0
Coming from a tech background, I definitely appreciated the varied and creative usage of tech throughout the room. If this room was in Toronto, it would probably be among some of the better implemented rooms there. We didn’t come across any safety related issues, other than portions of the room felt slightly small for a our team of 5 with a number of breakable objects (but these don’t really count).
Intuitive (aka Frustration Level): Did you have to be in the designers mind to escape?
Score: 4.5 of 5.0
For the most part we powered though the room and there were only 1 or 2 occasions we called in for a hint. During those cases one was a missed audio clues that we didn’t catch and the other we had too much info and not enough direction. This room will require a team of varied puzzlers which we were a good fit for (with task-based puzzles mixed in as well). It was more difficult (puzzle wise) than the other 2 rooms we did (Lost and Apocalypse) but it was overall a good room.
Hints are given via a walkie-talkie and we had no issues with it.
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The GMs Shawn and Emily were great to meet. They seem very enthusiastic about their venue and make a great team.
The price was $25 / person. which for London was a good experience.
Overall: Mad Tea Party by far was one of our favourite escapes in the London area. With that being said we look forward to what else GMs Shawn and Emily come up with next.
