ESC-IT – Dungeon of Despair
ESC-IT is located in Markham, just across Markville mall. We knew about their latest room for a few weeks, but didn’t have time (because of our various summer trips). We told Errol from ERA and he brought along his daughter Ekko (who is a 14-year old Puzzle Solving Juggernaut).
Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 2.5 of 5.0
The Dungeon feels more like a dark yet somewhat medieval room. Fortunately the decor fits the theme, however the set design isn’t too impressive and doesn’t have any real aspect of a dungeon.
Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 3.0 of 5.0
There was 1 or 2 interesting puzzles that were creative in their implementation. However tech lovers won’t have much here to appreciate as the room keeps it on a simple, basic level. Thankfully there were no safety issues we could see
The hint system uses a door bell system where you call in the GM for hints. We had no issues.
Intuitive (aka Frustration Level): Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 3.0 of 5.0
The GM warned us that the room was abstract and to some degree it was. There was too-much-info and many similar locks that lead us on various tangents. Ekko actually figured out the most abstract part of the room for us, but we didn’t connect the dots.
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The staff is friendly as always. One of them had an interesting chat with Errol about Totoro.
The current price was $15/person but only if you check-in to Facebook and pay cash.
Overall: For their newest room ESC-IT’s Dungeon falls short compared to the last two rooms. You can’t beat $15 but for $10-15 more you can have a really great experience elsewhere in Markham. We hope to see ESC-IT pull out all stops for any future rooms.
