Gamemaster Spotlight – Escape Manor
When we asked Ottawa escapers which place they would recommend, the majority of them pointed out this ‘little place’ on Queen St. They were not easy to book, but we later understood the high quality set designs is one of the many reasons why. Here is GM Steve with the rest.
Why did you get involved in the Escape Room business?
We are four entrepreneurial friends, with a good mix of business and hospitality backgrounds, and we were enlightened to the Room Escape business by another friend who had played rooms in Asia back in 2013. We dove in and have been in love with the concept ever since.
What do you think makes your facility standout in the city?
Having all worked for renowned hospitality and entertainment companies (Disney, Holland America Cruise Lines, Fairmont Hotels, and The Olympics), we have really strived to impart an engaging and welcoming environment on our guests. We have created a warm and intriguing atmosphere, in which we deliver entertaining puzzles and mysteries. That, and we have a cozy, licensed lounge full of games and brain teasers that really gets our guests into the vibe!
Do you have any Interesting stories about any players/Teams?
We once had a girl squeeze through our prison bars, a gent who relieved himself in our (unplumbed) prison toilet, and on a lighter note; have had three wedding proposals in our Wine Cellar.
What are some places people are more likely to visit before/after your rooms?
Most folks have a drink in our lounge, however we do have many great restaurants within a one block radius for those planning a full night out: Mulligan’s, Farm Team, Trois Brasseurs, Bier Markt and Hy’s Steak House. Tourists can also take in the Parliament buildings (two blocks away), as well as endless other Ottawa landmarks.
Do players have a favourite room?
Each room has it’s own loyal fans, however The Apocalypse and Asylum tend to get the most accolades of late.
Any other cool or interesting things you want your players/potential players to know?
We love what we do and fully intend to continue delivering exceptional and entertaining experiences for our discerning clientele. We have a lot of big surprises in store. Stay tuned!
We hope to revisit Escape Manor on future trip, because the other thing Escapers love is food (and mainly cause our friends at foodieprints.com know where the good stuff is). Don’t hesitate to book or you might be looking weeks in advance.
