Mission 45 – Resident Evil

Mission 45 is located in a plaza beside a mattress store in Scarborough.  We were bored and ansty to do a room, so we assembled the Divas (our friends Errol, Manda  and CodeGreen of E4G).  Ruby is a big fan of the Resident Evil series (she’s played 1 – 6 by herself), so when she heard Mission 45 released a room with that theme she was excited to try it.

Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
: 3.0 of 5.0

This room was probably one of the better decorated rooms at Mission 45, but according to our Resident Evil specialist (Ruby) it didn’t meet any story requirements.  There was effort for the set design to give a story progression, but it could use some polish.

Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 3.5 of 5.0

There were some interesting tech elements used for story progression and to support the puzzles.  However we felt that some of the story-based tech was a cause of frustration because it operated very slowly.  Luckily all the tech worked.

(aka Frustration Level):  Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 2.5 of 5.0

The problem we had with the room was the amount of time consuming task-based puzzles.  In the middle of the game there were a few puzzles that consumed the bulk of our time, which could have been alleviated with some paper and pen.

By the halfway point some of our members were so frustrated with the puzzles that they tried to find ways to brute force (solve) the answers.

The hint system requires you to call the staff via a walkie talkie, which we had no issues with.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The staff was friendly on a business-level, but not much more.

The current price is $20-25 (depending on your room selection), and were running a $15 promo at the time we went.  You can also probably find them on Groupon.

Overall:  Resident Evil wasn’t the worst room we did at Mission 45 and definitely shows that they are trying to improve their experiences.  With a few puzzle replacements we think this might be a half-decent room.
