Perplexity – Last Laugh

Perplexity Escape Games is located in Brampton at 410 and Steeles.  We were eager to revisit after our fun experiences with Kate’s Motel and the Elevator.  The main reason however was to play with our good friends the Elumir’s (Errol, Ekko), Manda and Errol’s Sister Lizette (who was visiting from Calgary).

Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 4.5 of 5.0

Last Laugh has a very unique theme (at least for us) that takes place on a circus’ fairgrounds.  The set design works well with the storytelling and has many believable and well-crafted components in the room.  We would say this is one of the better looking rooms at Perplexity, but we feel its missing just a few small touches to make it perfect.

Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score:  5.0 of 5.0

There were some good tech elements in the room that supported the theme well in terms of logical and surprise elements.  I would say in terms of tech, it has more than Perplexity’s normal usage, but just enough not to be cheesy.  Thankfully we had no tech issues with the room.

Intuitive (aka Frustration Level):  Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score:  4.5 of 5.0

Last Laugh continues Perplexity’s streak on straightforward and fun puzzles.  We had no major issues with logic leaps and only in one case we seemed to miss the linkage for one particular puzzle.  The puzzles fit the theme well, but we feel that (to be very nit picky) it would have been nice if the puzzles fit an overall story.

The other great thing about the room is that it is 75 minutes (one of the only in Toronto) so you should have lots of time to finish the room.

The hint system calls on the GM’s via a walkie talkie, which we had no issues with.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The Gamemasters at Perplexity are a great group.  We probably spent 30 minutes alone talking about great (and not so great) escapes in the city.

The price for is $23.99 / person with a 10% discount for a facebook check-in.

Overall:  Perplexity continues to crank out fun games and Last Laugh continues the trend.  Unless you have a fear of clowns, check this room out.  (Disclaimer: This room may or may not actually contain clowns.)
