Room Escape Ottawa – Serial Killer Charade
Room Escape Ottawa is located outside the downtown core in Ottawa. It was our 2nd of 7 escapes on the same day. When we got to the facility, we found out that they also have an Archery Tag arena. We were greeted by the GM who introduced us to the team of new players (because of their ticket system) who were just as eager as us to play.
Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 4.5 of 5.0
The room starts off strong as the lighting and set design play well with the theme. As the room progresses, so does the story which has high quality props that were well used. My only complaint was the usage of props in a particular room, because it felt like it cheapened the experience, but otherwise this was an enjoyable room.
Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0
The tech plays well with both story and puzzle elements, to enhance the overall experience. A good mixture of electrical and mechanical components were used to make the usage feel authentic and not forced.
Intuitive (aka Frustration Level): Did you have to be in the designers mind to escape?
Score: 4.5 of 5.0
Overall (especially for an Ottawa experience) the puzzles were mostly intuitive. We feel a few minor tweaks could help provide more direction with certain puzzles. Otherwise the puzzles flowed well and helped with the narrative which is rare to see in escape rooms.
The hint system uses a walkie-talkie system for unlimited hints.
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The gamemasters were friendly, helpful and seemed like they enjoyed working there.
The price is $24.00 (plus tax) / person. For the experience it was well worth the price.
Overall: Serial Killer Charade was one of the best Ottawa experience we had (on both of our trips), tied only to the Boom Room (at the same facility). If you are in Ottawa, do not miss out on this experience.
