Omescape – Project Sphere

Omescape is located in Markham, just off the 404 near Steeles.  We were invited back by GM Kenny to try their revision of Mysterious Study (now called Project Sphere).  This time around we brought Team Kayphen and Chewy (who has never done an Omescape room).  Our first time doing Mysterious Study was one of our top experiences in the City, How did Project Sphere measure up?

Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 5.0 of 5.0

Even though we have played it before, the room felt brand-new with great add-ins for story and set design elements.  There were new audio/video cues, and better cohesion with the puzzle and story.

It was a nice change from some of their other rooms, where we feel the story doesn’t always come out strong.  Project Sphere’s level of storytelling is definitely on par with the top escapes of the city.

Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0

The one thing we weren’t expecting was the tech to improve, but it has.  There are some great process and “aha” puzzles that have been added with the right tech to support it.

Chewy who has been with us to most of the city’s top escapes (and more of a tech junkie than I) was amazed at how nicely the tech worked, and still managed to surprise and impress him.

Intuitive (aka Frustration Level):  Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 5.0 of 5.0

Whenever we recommend Omescape, we generally do not recommend it to new players because they tend to have more difficult puzzles.  Project Sphere seems to have more process puzzles, which in our perspective also seemed to lower its difficulty.

Our group of 5 easily breezed past the room with 10 minutes to spare using only 1 hint. There were no major logical leaps and the room contained all the necessarily information to solve the puzzles.  This revision was definitely more intuitive than its predecessor.

Staff Support/Price :
Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The staff and gamemasters are always a pleasure to chat with.  We’re glad to see things seem to be going well for Omescape and it was packed for a Friday night.  HINT HINT, book ahead.

Omescape offers a number of different experiences that include the escape rooms, boardgames, retro games and drinks.  For more details click here.

Overall:  The best games we’ve played are always the ones that are polished.  Project Sphere is a perfect example of a great game made even better.  Want to have a great experience?  This is a sure-bet.
