Escape Adventure Canada – The Pirate’s Revenge
Escape Adventure Canada is located in an office building in Kitchener. It was our 4th escape of the day and we were excited because it had a theme (something that was lacking from our KW experience). By this point Errol, Manda and our secret guest were reaching a fatigue point and eager to finish this escape to grab some food.
Creativity and Design (aka its Fancy level): – Was it inventive ? Did it fit the theme?
Score : 3.0 of 5.0
The room contained some props that were well suited for the theme, however we weren’t allowed to touch some, while others felt out of place. The puzzles tried to incorporate parts of the theme, but they did still feel somewhat disconnected.
Bells and Whistles: Was it just lockboxes throughout the Room?
Score: N/A of 5.0
The room was a simple generation 1 room, with no tech. Not to say that it needed any, but there is nothing for tech lovers to see in this room.
Intuitive (aka Frustration Level): Was it solvable? or Did you have to be inside the creators mind to solve it?
Score: 3.0 of 5.0
The puzzles were a bit hit and miss. Even though we understood them, the thought-process that lead us to the answer didn’t feel intuitive in a story and/or a puzzle solving sense. (which is definitely hard to describe without details).
With our fab 5 we did escape in record time, however we also required 1 hint.
The hint system uses a doorbell which calls in the GM. There is another doorbell which announces your completion.
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The Gamemaster was among the friendliest we encountered on our trip. The GM was great to chat with and eager to offer her bowl of jolly rancher candies.
Overall: It was a nice change-up to play an escape that had a theme, as Kitchener/Waterloo (KW) seems to lack them. However the Pirate’s Revenge could probably use a bit of elbow grease to really level it up to some of the masterpieces we have played. If you’re looking for something different in the KW, give it a try and let us know what you think
