Mayze – Escape with Usavich

Mayze is located in the eastern part of Toronto just off Markham Rd.  It was our second visit to their facility and after a great time with “The Truth of Osaka High” we were eager to see this game.  Tackling this room was the full #REDivas team with Ekko and Margeaux.  The gist of the story is you are trying to make a prison break with the character Usavich (which i needed to google ahead of time).

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Cartoonish fun, but at times felt random.

+ the set design/props/environmental effects enhanced the cartoonish theme
+ You don’t need to know Usavich lore to escape (thankfully)
– Some puzzles felt somewhat random with the story.

Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: Good uses of tech, but could use a bit of polish

+ Tech was used for puzzles and storytelling
+ We had no tech issues in our game
– One storytelling piece of tech was ‘hard to hear’ at times.

Intuitive:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary:  Some puzzle tweaks needed and more story-puzzle integration needed.

+ No major logical leaps or red herrings
+ Responsive Hint system: Walkie Talkie call-in
– There are was one puzzles that needed a few tweaks to make it more intuitive

Staff Support/Price
: Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The GMs were friendly and curious to get our feedback.  So far we’ve only had some great experience with the staff

The price is $29.99+tax / person, with a $5 discount if you check-in.  For this experience it was well worth the price.

Overall:  A very different game from “The Truth of Osaka High”,  but still a high quality game.  It is especially worth trying if you are already a fan of Mayze.
