Omescape – Virus Outbreak: The Final Hour

Omescape Scarborough is located in Scarborough, just off the 401 and Kennedy.  We were eager to try their latest game (in their new location) after an amazing time with Project Sphere.  This time we brought our ace players: Team Kayphen and Chewy.  The new facility is very spacious and offers a new game (not escape related) called Epic Runner (We’ll get more into that in a bit).  But onto the review.

In short you are part of a team trying to prevent a virus outbreak by
1) Finding the secret lab – which is through the sewer system
2) Preventing the outbreak
3) escaping (of course)

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?

+ the set design is top-notch, every room tells a piece of the story.
+ great environmental factors that further enhance the immersion

Summary:  Omescape’s tested and true tech is put to good use.

+ No tech hiccups
+ tech was well used to enhance puzzle and story elements
+ great tech puzzle feedback mechanisms that limit frustration

Intuitive:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: Puzzles were fun and straightforward, some puzzle tweaks could be made for better story cohesion.

+ A good mix of task-based and A-Ha puzzles
+ The puzzles were straightforward, we didn’t need any hints
+ Most of the puzzles tied nicely with the overall story, some tweaks needed in the middle
+ Responsive walkie talkie hint system.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The staff and gamemasters are always a pleasure to chat with.  The room was booked back-to-back and based on the quality of it, we weren’t surprised.  Also in the facility is a new (physical) game called Epic Runner.  The long-story-short is it is a 7000 sq ft obstacle maze that you play ‘tag’ in.  If you’ve ever seen the Korean variety show “Running Man” it takes elements from the name-tag elimination.  It’s a really great teambuilding experience and we’d definitely recommend it. For more details click here or email us for more info.

Overall:  Virus Outbreak is what we hope to see more of.  A great theme park like experience, paired with fun puzzles.  Omescape only continues to get better.
