Oshawa Escape Rooms – Detention
Oshawa Escape Rooms is located in a small strip plaza in Oshawa. We were itching for rooms to do and decided for a small out-of-town adventure. Ruby and I played with Alex, who has been making the rounds in the GTA. We were greeted by GM James who was very eager for us to try his room.
Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: It definitely has a classroom vibe, probably one of the best we’ve seen.
+ The set design was amazingly similar to a classroom.
+ Props also felt appropriate to a classroom in the 90’s- 2000
– Some of the puzzles were tucked away in odd spots
Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: A simple gen-1 room with no gadgets to report.
N/A – nothing really stood out, it was a very simple room.
Intuitive: Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: This room was pitched well and most new players should be able to escape.
+ Most of the puzzles were solvable with no hints
– there were 1 or 2 puzzles that required a few logic leaps
+ Puzzle lovers will appreciate the volume of puzzles. If you don’t bring a big group.
+ Responsive Hint system: Doorbell call-in
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
GM James was nice to chat and was eager to get our feedback. We didn’t chat for too long because we also played their newest room “the Nightmare Man”
The price is $25.00 / person which is comparable with their nearest neighbours.
Overall: Detention would be a decent room to do with a larger group or people who really enjoy school-themed rooms.
