ESC-IT – The Lost Lair

ESC-IT is located in Markham, just across Markville mall.  We knew about their latest room for a few weeks, but were saving a room or two for rainy day.  This time around Codegreen and SuiMiu from E4G joined us and to be frank we weren’t expecting much.  

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: What you see, is what you get.

+ Basic set design, but the room had 2 surprises
– it didn’t feel like a lair, more like an office that didn’t have any lights to turn on.

Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: If you like lockboxes, this room is for you.

+ No tech to talk about, but also no mechanical problems
– So many lockboxes, but again we don’t expect much from ESC-IT

Intuitive:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary:  Simple and fun puzzles!

+ Responsive Hint system: Doorbell system, GM comes into the room.
+ We didn’t have any issues with the puzzles, however E4G carried the room.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The Gamemasters were efficient at cashing us in and getting our after-game-photo.  But other than that, nothing noteworthy to comment on.

The price is $15 / person after facebook check-in.  It’s one of the cheapest in the city, but you get what you pay for.

Overall:  Unfortunately the ESC-IT games have not aged well, compared to games across the GTA and even their nearest neighbours.  However, you can’t beat the price for this quick and dirty game.  If you are looking for something barebones, this is your room.
