The Crux Niagara – The Night before Cruxmas

The Crux (Niagara) is located in Downtown Niagara  on Victoria Ave, just 5-10 minutes from the touristy parts of Niagara.  It was our first visit to the Crux and also a fun GoPro experience (video to be posted in the future).  We went with the other Divas (Errol and Manda) to try their seasonal room.  One of the impressive things about the Crux Niagara is the amount of space and variety of boardgames.  If we had a few hours we could easily hang out there for a day.

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary:  A simple season room, not much to say otherwise

+ The set design fits the story well, with many interactive bits.
+ We couldn’t find any “Ask Why’s”  that stuck out.
+ The room was well decorated for a seasonal room

Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: Tech lovers won’t have anything to chew on, but we had no issues

+ No tech to talk about, but also no mechanical problems
+ Good use of communicative tech that fit the story

Intuitive:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary:  We did struggle with a puzzle or two, but overall it was smooth

+ Responsive Hint system: GM hints over the walkie
+ Overall we didn’t struggle much with this room, the hints helped smooth those out.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

Gamemaster Rob is a friendly guy, who is passionate about game design.  After playing his other rooms and interviewing him (which you can catch here), you can tell he’s the ideal person to be designing rooms.

The price varies depending on how many people you bring, you can read about it here.

Overall:  For a seasonal room this was a decent room.  There may be a few puzzle related tweaks needed, but its clear the designers have a good handle on game design.
