The Crux Niagara – Clara

The Crux (Niagara) is located in Downtown Niagara  on Victoria Ave, just 5-10 minutes from the touristy parts of Niagara.  We went with the other Divas (Errol and Manda), right after we left Transworld conference (which we did a live podcast recording).  Greeted by the Crux staff and some other (slack) enthusiasts, we were itching to get our game on.

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Strong storytelling elements that build as you play

+ The set design seems random at first, but it all comes together as you play.
+ Simple, yet effective design
+ Puzzles that helped build the narrative

Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: Unique low-tech approach that adds in nice surprises and fun puzzle elements

+ Everything worked, no mechanical issues
+ Simple tech used well.

Intuitive:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary:  A good beginner room or easy run for experienced enthusiasts

+ We did not have any issues with the puzzle design of the room
+ A much easier room than Dead Air, we escaped under the time limit

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

Gamemaster Rob is a friendly guy, who is passionate about game design.  After playing his other rooms and interviewing him (which you can catch here), you can tell he’s the ideal person to be designing rooms.

The price varies depending on how many people you bring, you can read about it here.

Overall:  Clara is another great room to try at The Crux Niagara.  Even with a low-tech approach, we still feel it’s a fun game worth doing if you are in the Niagara area.
