Omescape – Shutdown

Omescape Scarborough is located in Scarborough, just off the 401 and Kennedy.  This time we brought our ace players: Team Kayphen and Chewy.  We knew wouldn’t need their skillset for their latest room Shutdown because we heard it was made for beginners.

Long story short your mission is to infiltrate a max security compound to unleash a computer virus.

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Top notch, almost as if you are living through a movie

+ the set design is high quality, with interactive parts.
+ great environmental factors that help guide the narrative
+ well-timed storytelling mechanisms that keep you on track and build tension

Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary:  Tech enthusiasts would enjoy this room.

+ No tech hiccups
+ many interactive puzzles that were focused on tech usage
+ puzzle feedback mechanisms that limit frustration

:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: Great for beginners, definitely too easy for our experienced team

+ Primarily task-based puzzles, this room was meant for beginners
+ The puzzles were straightforward, we didn’t need any hints
+ Responsive walkie talkie hint system.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The staff and gamemasters are always a pleasure to chat with.  They have started to use a room for their pre-game videos and continue to be busy with their other room as well as EPIC RUNNER (non-escape activity, which if you have a group of 8-14 friends, we highly recommend it).

Overall:  Shutdown is probably the easiest Omescape room we’ve played.  With a great combination of Immersion/Tech/Puzzles (and easier difficulty), this room could be a great introductory escape room.
