Escape Canada – Twilight Zone – Memory Lane
Escape Canada is located in Hamilton Ontario (we’ve also been to the London location). We were on a trip to re-conquer the Hamilton region and this was our third stop of a #REDivas day out (featuring the original diva). We arrived early to this game, but the facility was being run by a single gamemaster, who didn’t talk to us until it was our game time.
Long story short: You are reliving a memory.. in a dream.
Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: A confusing jumble of set design and props.
+ The room was consistent in its randomness throughout the adventure
– lots of areas where the room was rough around the edges
– it was hard to see with limited flashlights
– the room was felt unfinished.
Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: Lots of potential to use tech in dream-like ways, but it doesn’t.
– no notable tech or fun tech usages.
+ all electronic and mechanical tech worked properly
Intuitive: Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: We needed some help here and there, but it is still solvable.
– We struggled with at least half of the puzzles
+ The hint system makes use of a walkie-talkie system, which we used many times
– The room definitely needs more direction
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The GM experience was ‘normal’ at best. He was friendly, but pretty much left us alone even though we were 20 minutes early.
Overall: We can confidently not recommend this room. That is until they finish it. It feels incomplete and overall a bunch of smaller rooms mashed together.
