Escape Maze – The Battle for Granny’s Gold
Escape Maze is located in Peterborough Ontario on farmland. During the Summer they hosted an Escape Maze Enthusiast Day, which had a flat rate where you could play ALL THEIR ROOMS in a single day (so how could we refuse). In our third room of the day we did it with Team Freeing, who are great at solving rooms as they are building them.
Long story short: Someone’s after Granny’s gold. You can either help them as the bad guys or help Granny stop them. In this case we played the “Good guys”, but against a team who were the “Bad guys”.
Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Nothing was wasted, a thoroughly cohesive experience
+ An interesting plot development as you play through the room
+ Lots of set design surprises
+ Things feel authentically “Granny” in the room.
Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: This is one of their smaller rooms but packs alot of (tech) punch
+ some good uses of surprise tech used in the room
+ No tech hiccups
+ one awesome element that is simple, yet effective in a head-to-head match
Intuitive: Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: The puzzles were fun and played well with the story.
+ Great focus on puzzles that tie nicely into the story
+ The puzzles were straightforward and provided enough direction
+ the hint system calls in a GM to ask for hints
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The GMs were fantastic as always, probably some of the friendliest people we’ve come across in 3 years of escaping.
The price you can find on their website.
Overall: A fantastic room, which is great for large groups and a must-play if you are at Escape Maze.
