Keymaster Escape Rooms – Expelled
Keymasters is located in Hamilton Ontario pretty close the QEW on the way to Niagara. We were looking for a quick room to do after visiting the BGN for an escape event (Framed in the Past) done by Dr. Scott Nicholson’s class. This time we had the full #REDivas team and were hoping for a good room to close off the night.
Long story short: You’re a class full of delinquents handcuffed to your desk, escape!
Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Not completely polished, but a fun take on a classroom theme
+ Good set design details, although some parts did feel a bit random
+ Great intro to the game, the GM role played the teacher
+ Fun and unique game elements
– Some areas were showing wear and tear, but overall it was good.
Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: Tech was evidently used everywhere, some good uses peppered in.
+ Many uses of tech, with no major tech issues
+ tech used for puzzle and storytelling purposes.
– one piece of tech felt a bit clumsy, but very unique
Intuitive: Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: A slightly harder game from their previous offering, but good overall.
+ Most of the puzzles were clear what needed to be done
+ Some unique puzzles that made good use of the theme
– One or two puzzles needed a bit more direction
+ The hint system uses a walkie talkie system which we had no issues with
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The GMs were friendly and very engaging. We probably spent an equal amount of time talking to them as we did playing the room. Great people, who have a passion for building and playing escape rooms.
The prices scale with the number of players, which you can find here.
Overall: Expelled is another great pick for the Hamilton region. Keymaster Escape Rooms has a good focus on making fun rooms, which shows.
