Crypto Escape Rooms – Below Zero

Crypto Escape Rooms is located in Newmarket, just off the 404, on Davis Dr.  Its located on the upper floor of a building shared with a bowling alley.  We decided to bring the full #REDivas team (Errol, Manpans, Ruby and myself) + emspace to try the room.  So far Crypto has been improving their experiences with every iteration and we were excited to see their newest room.

Long Story Short:  You are a team that has been woken up from cryo-freeze to help save the rest of humanity…

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary:  Everything you could want from a sci-fi experience.  

+ The set design and storytelling tech was fun and interactive.
+ A great take on sci-fi and the perfect intro video to match it.
+ Fun in-game choices that affect the gameplay and the story.
+ Great Immersive details on characters as you play.

Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary:  Fantastic use of tech in an escape room.

+ Incredible use of storytelling tech, probably some of the best we’ve seen
+ Fun uses of tech with puzzles that also affect the gameplay.
+ The tech was intuitive with the appropriate feedback.

Intuitive:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary:  A fun room for enthusiasts and newbies.

+ Heavily task-based, which is accessible to newbies
+ A polished experience.  We didn’t need hints
+ Requires good team communication and encourages teamwork.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

GM Stephen and the Crypto team are always a pleasure to chat with.  For a small, but sturdy team, they run a well-oiled machine.  Every iteration of new rooms have been LEAPS in improvements, which is why we get excited everytime they mention they’ll have a new game.

The price is $25 / person, which is one of the best price-for-experiences in the GTA.  When enthusiasts ask for GTA recommendations Crypto is a safe-bet and always in our top 3.

Overall:  Crypto Escape Rooms has been synonymous with excellent in the Toronto escape room scene,  Below Zero is a prime example why.
