Escape Room Barrie – Against your will

Escape Room Barrie is located in Barrie, Ontario.  We ventured out to Barrie to try something new and get away from the city for a while.  We had with us Team Awesome, who are escape room owners and expert players.

Long story short: You’ve been kidnapped by someone who thinks you’re unintelligent…

Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Good attempt at a thriller-esque room, very gritty.

+ good decor and effort in the set design
+ the backstory gives a reason why you are doing what you are doing
+ good use of environmental elements
– not the best games we’ve seen, but definitely the best in Barrie.

Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: The room didn’t have any major hiccups

+ No tech hiccups
+ intuitive gameplay elements
+ a good mix of electronic and mechanical puzzle elements

Intuitive:  Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary:  Most puzzles were fun and intuitive

+ We didn’t struggle with most of the puzzles
+ The difficulty progression was fair for the room
+ the room can be played non-linearly (for most of it), so good for a larger team.

Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?

The GM were friendly and knew some people in our group, so we chatted a bit about their journey.

Overall:  Escape Room Barrie was a fun fix for our escape room cravings.  It doesn’t have the bells and whistles of what we’re used to, but a solid experience for anyone looking to do something in Barrie.
