Mr. Escape – Annabelle
Mr. Escape is located at the North-West corner of Woodbine and John. A little hard to find as it is in the back of that building complex, but its easy to catch the sign. It has been a while since we’ve been but we heard they were under new management and decided to try their revamped rooms. We did the room with Leader from E4G, the #REDivas and Alex.
Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Great start and end, the middle was a bit soggy.
+ The room definitely sells creepy with a few jump scares.
+ One element that was used from beginning to end was great for storytelling.
+ An interesting game element that splits your party
– The set design was hit and miss it would have been good with more polish.
– Sometime the story was lost on the random tech.
Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: Fun elements were used in the room, although some need design considerations.
+ No tech hiccups
+ The tech was used in some parts for story-related elements
– Sometimes the tech usage was a bit confusing (blinking lights for no reason)
– the puzzle related tech wasn’t always intuitive.
Intuitive: Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: Straightforward for the most part, one puzzle needs some tweaks
+ Responsive Hint system: Walkie Talkie call-in
+ We escaped with 20-30 minutes to spare, a new record.
– The puzzles don’t always tie together with the story.
– There were 1 or 2 spots we needed a bit more direction
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly/helpful? What was the Damage?
The staff was friendly and eager to see Leader/Errol/Manda/Alex as they made their way to the New Mr. Escape before. They wanted to hear feedback, but at the time we were pretty exhausted, so we left.
The current price is $24.99 , with a discount if you play back-to-back. You can see the details here.
Overall: Mr. Escape’s new design team is a vast improvement over their previous designers. With the addition of puzzle/story tech and a better narrative we only have high hopes that they’ll continue to improve. We’ll definitely give them another try in the meantime.

Love your reviews, I’m hoping this will be scary, my teens are not old enough to get in to The Unknown just yet, was it scary?

Hey Lisa
thank you for reading!. It was probably not the scariest we’ve done, but probably in the top 10. Its so hard to answer this without spoilers.. (and especially not talking about the unknown) , but there may be some surprise elements. I hope that helps
