Keymasters Escape Rooms – Mad Scientists
Keymasters is located in Hamilton Ontario pretty close the QEW on the way to Niagara. We were on a trip to re-conquer the Hamilton region and this was our first stop of a #REDivas day out (featuring the original diva). After a quick and fairly impressive intro video, we were off.
Long story short: You’re captives of a mad scientist, who wants to test your intelligence.
Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: Maybe not a cohesive room, but it was definitely enjoyable
+ Good set design
+ Great ingame and intro videos
+ Fun and unique game elements
– We wish overall it had more polish, but a good attempt for a first room
Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes?
Summary: Like the set design, the room shines on fun elements.
+ No issues with any mechanical/electrical processes
+ Good uses of ‘science’ and tech to provide surprise moments
+ unique implementations that work well.
Intuitive: Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: A good game for beginners and experienced players alike.
+ We completed the majority of the puzzles within 30-40 minutes
+ We didn’t need any hints, the room was relatively straighforward
+ The hint system makes use of the (great quality) pre-recorded videos
– would have been great to see more puzzle cohesion to explain a greater narrative
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The GMs were friendly and very engaging. We probably spent an equal amount of time talking to them as we did playing the room. They mentioned their second room was about to be released (which at the time of this writing has already have been).
The prices scale with the number of players, which you can find here.
Overall: Mad Scientists is a highly recommended pick if you are in the Hamilton region. They don’t over-complicate things, yet still have enough to keep you on your toes.
