Escape Maze – The Shaft (2018)
We had just spent the majority of our day in Peterborough doing the rooms at PTBO Escape (Run by the same people behind Escape Maze) and were offered to do “The Shaft”. If you haven’t read our other reviews on this room it is located in the basement of the Escape Maze barn. Every year the Escape Maze team redesigns the Shaft into something new. You can see our review of the first version of the Shaft here.
Long story short: You team was hired to inspect Dr. Claude Corbeau’s laboratory…
Creativity and Design: Did it sell the story / theme?
Summary: suspense is spelt “SUSPENSE” in this room .
+ A massive space to explore with amazing and gritty set design.
+ Great use of tech and environmental effects to build suspense.
Bells and Whistles: Was it more than lockboxes? Did it enhance the experience?
Summary: Everything works, and works well.
+ Great uses of electronic and mechanical tech, which has been consistent since 2016
+ Environmental tech was well used for smoke and mirror techniques
+ No tech issues
Intuitive: Did you have to be inside the designer’s mind to solve it?
Summary: The puzzles weren’t stressful, they left that up to the theme
+ Straightforward puzzles
+ we completed the entire experience with time to spare
+ after a time limit they allow you to progress regardless.
Staff Support/Price : Were they friendly? Were they helpful? What was the Damage?
The Escape Maze team does a wonderful job with every iteration of the Shaft and this year is no exception.
The price per person was $28 per person and it’s well worth the experience.
Overall:
The Shaft continues to represent a superb escape room experience. The only downside is the limited availability.
